Overview
The University of Strasbourg created the Strategic Planning and Foresight Office (Mission prospective et stratégie – MIPS) in September 2021, following the publication of the Cap 2030 strategic orientation document, which sets out the university’s long-term goals and priorities. The Strategic Planning and Foresight Office operates under the authority of the General Services Office and falls under the responsibility of the Vice-President for Strategic Planning and Foresight.
Its main responsibilities include:
- Providing advice and supporting decision-making
- Monitoring and benchmarking
- Implementing the Initiative of Excellence (Initiative d'excellence – IdEx) and self-assessing the university's alignment with its strategic objectives
- Developing and coordinating major programmes
- Analysing opportunities and strategic positioning
Organisation
The Strategic Planning and Foresight Office supports the University of Strasbourg's governing bodies, particularly the Senior Leadership Team, in defining and implementing the university’s strategy.
It consists of two departments working collaboratively across the university to provide decision-making support and identify opportunities to advance the strategic objectives of the Strasbourg campus:
Foresight Department – conducts monitoring and advisory activities to guide and stimulate discussions that help shape and implement the university’s strategy.
Programming Department – coordinates major university-wide programmes defined by the Board of Trustees, overseeing their development, implementation and ongoing management, for example, the interdisciplinary thematic institutes (instituts thématiques interdisciplinaires – ITI). Through this monitoring, it also helps identify new funding opportunities to support the university’s strategic initiatives.
The Strategic Planning and Foresight Office works closely with the Senior Leadership Team, the university's central services and a range of professional networks across the institution to achieve its goals.
